CSBA announced the creation of the “Dede Alpert Award for Exemplary Legislative Leadership.”
The opinion examined Education Code allowing a student to be excused for medical appointments.
During his remarks to the Delegate Assembly, CSBA Executive Director Scott P. Plotkin said a key issue of the new year will be whether the governor and Legislature will honor the deal the education community made one year ago to accept a limited suspension of Proposition 98.
CSBA advocates say they will seek state legislation that incorporates a number of special education reforms contained in the recently reauthorized Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
The state Board of Education has hired Catherine Barkett as its Executive Director.
To help districts dealing with declining enrollment issues, CSBA has joined School Services of California and a number of school districts, county offices and statewide organizations to form the California Declining Enrollment Coalition.
The Delegate Assembly adopted the following Principles of Political Reform to guide the organization’s evaluation of proposals to change a political process or structure.
CSBA plans to sponsor legislation in several areas to address the needs of local school districts.
