CSBA’s Jan. 14 Forecast to set stage for 2010

State revenues continue to decline, setting up what analysts now estimate will be at least a $6.3 billion hole in the current state budget—a budget that has already drastically undercut the state’s public schools.

On top of a $14.4 billion gap projected for the 2010–11 budget proposal the governor is expected to make early next month, the outlook for education funding remains bleak.

“There are some clouds on the horizon that indicate conditions might be forming for another round of midyear budget cuts before this current year is over,” Rick Pratt, CSBA’s assistant executive director for governmental relations, warned during the association’s Back-to-School Webcast in September.

All that makes CSBA’s annual Forecast Webcast Wednesday, Jan. 14, an essential part of the association’s continuing work to help its members weather the fiscal storms.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s January budget proposal, other state and federal developments and the latest economic news will be reflected in the Forecast Webcast, which will once again feature nationally regarded economist Christopher Thornberg along with Pratt, CSBA Executive Director Scott P. Plotkin and other presenters as well as opportunities to submit questions.

The Forecast Webcast will be transmitted live over the Internet from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 14. There’s no cost to participate, but registration is required.
