Legislative Committee
Purpose
The CCBE Legislative Committee reviews and takes positions on proposed legislation that affects county boards and county offices of education. This committee reviews all state and federal legislation that may impact county members and county offices of education. CCBE has developed a Legislative Policy Platform that focuses the organization’s lobbying efforts on behalf of county boards of education at the state and federal level. This is important because some legislative issues can be very specific to county boards and county offices of education. For example, years ago a bill that had originally included equalization for districts and county offices was passed after eliminating county offices. County offices are still waiting for the equalization of their funding and CCBE is lobbying to this effect.
Legislator of the Year Award
The legislative committee also nominates a senator and/or assembly member for CCBE’s Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award. The committee sends a nomination form to each county board of education encouraging them to participate. Upon receipt and review of all nomination forms, the committee announces the winners and the award is presented at CSBA's Annual Education Conference at the General Membership meeting.
