Frank Pugh

Frank Pugh

Frank Pugh, a board member in the Santa Rosa City Schools District in Sonoma County, is the 2010 President of the California School Boards Association.

He is also a full-time instructor and counselor for Santa Rosa Junior College and currently lectures for the departments of Electronics, Applied Technology and Counseling.

Pugh has worked as a technician in the electronics industry, and started his teaching career as an electronics instructor at the Naval Weapons Laboratory at Point Loma, California. He has also taught electronic technology courses for various industries, as well as in the military, Southwestern Community College, San Diego State University and Porterville High School. In 1979 he began his teaching career at Santa Rosa Junior College. He has taught courses ranging from applied mathematics to advanced graduate seminars in electronics. His primary research interests are in industrial automation controls.

After receiving tenure at SRJC, Pugh became an occupational representative to the faculties’ academic senate. Later, he was elected to a two-year term as President of the Academic Senate, then was re-elected to this position two additional terms, serving as President for a total of six years.

He has authored seven textbooks and four magazine articles in the area of electronic technology. He has also created several recipes for Sunset Magazine and was twice named “Chef of the West.” Cooking has turned out to be one of his favorite hobbies.

In 1990, Pugh was elected to the Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education a K-12 district serving 23 schools. He has participated on various district committees and was elected to the position of Board President for four terms.

Pugh is active in CSBA, serving on the Delegate Assembly since 1993. He completed his Masters in Governance and was also a member of the Higher Education Remediation Task Force, CENIC and CIF Board of Managers. He has participated in many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings.

He has also participated as a member of the Sonoma County Committee School District Organization, Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce Education Steering Committee, member of the Board of Directors of CENIC, executive member of the Sonoma County School Trustees Association, and other various regional educational advisory committees.

Pugh lives in Santa Rosa with his wife Ann; they have two daughters, Caroline and Elizabeth and son-in-law Ryan.

 

Martha Fluor

Martha Fluor

Martha Fluor, a board member in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District in Orange County, is the 2010 President-elect of the California School Boards Association.

Fluor has served on the Board of Trustees for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District since 1991 and also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Coastline Regional Occupation Program. She serves as a liaison to various district communities including the School Attendance Review Board, CIF, Wellness and Project ASK.

She is also involved in many community organizations and currently serves on the Girl Scouts of Orange County Board of Directors, the KOCE-TV (PBS) Foundation Board, and on the National School Boards Foundation. Her previous non-profit involvement has included service on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), Discovery Science Center and the Newport Beach Public Library. She is a member of the Junior League of Orange County and a former board member of the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa.

Fluor is an active CSBA board member, serving on Delegate Assembly since 1992 and has completed the CSBA Masters in Boardsmanship and Governance. She has served on the nominating committee for two years and participates in many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings. She is currently the governmental relations chair for Congressman John Campbell.

She earned her Bachelor of Science from San Diego State University and holds two credentials in elementary and special education. She was a special education teacher for four years in the Orange Unified School District, as well as a bilingual instructional aide in Newport-Mesa.

Fluor is the proud mother of five children and is raising her two granddaughters. She is a member of every PTA/PFO unit in her district and serves as the PTA treasurer for her granddaughter’s elementary school; she also produces the Sonora Elementary yearbook and is the Washington Mutual Savings coordinator at two schools.

 

Mary Boger

Mary Boger

Mary Boger, a board member in the Glendale Unified School District in Los Angeles County, is the 2010 Vice President of the California School Boards Association.

Boger has served on the Board of Trustees for the Glendale Unified School District since 2002. From 2003-2004 and again from 2007-2008 she held the position of Clerk. From 2004-2005 and again from 2008-2009 she served as Vice President, and President from 2005-2006 and 2009-2010.

Mary has a long history of community service. She has participated or volunteered her time for groups ranging from the Glendale Council PTA, where she served as President, to the Glendale YWCA, where she served on the Board of Directors, to the Chair of the GUSD Advisory Bond Committee. Her extensive volunteer work shows that her dedication to her community is backed by her commitment to volunteer and serve.

Boger is an active CSBA board member, serving on Delegate Assembly since 2007. She has served as the CSBA legislative liaison to Congressman Adam Schiff, was a Golden Bell Validator and was a National School Boards Association’s Annual Meeting Presenter and is a CSBA Masters in Governance graduate.

Mary and her husband Donald have been married for 30 years.

 

Paula Campbell

Paula Campbell

Paula S. Campbell, a board member in the Nevada City School District in Nevada County, is the Immediate Past President of the California School Boards Association.

Campbell has served on the Board of Trustees for the Nevada City School District since 1992, serving five terms as president. She was also the board clerk for four terms and served on such committees as policy development, certificated negotiations, transportation and facilities. She was also a board member of the Nevada City Schools Foundation for four years and served on the Deer Creek School Site Council for three years.

As a member of CSBA’s Executive Committee, she serves on the board of the Cities, Counties and Schools Partnership and will serve as the chair of the Partnership in 2010. She will also be a delegate to the National School Boards Association’s Delegate Assembly. In addition, she has served on a number of CSBA committees, including CSBA’s Policy Platform Committee, the Compensation Review Committee, Federal Issues Council, Charter Schools Task Force, Budget Committee, Annual Education Conference Planning Committee, Legislative Committee and Board Development Committee.

In 2010, Paula will chair NSBA’s Pacific Region. The Pacific Region consists of Alaska, Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The purpose of the regions is to effect greater participation in the affairs of NSBA and improve communications and understanding of programs and issues in order to strengthen state associations and assist school boards in achieving their goal to improve public education.

Campbell holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. She resides in Nevada City with her husband Stu. They have three children and one grandchild.
