Modesto City Schools Board Member Cindy Marks Elected CSBA Vice President
San Francisco, Calif. – Modesto City Schools Board Member Cindy Marks was elected vice president of the California School Boards Association on December 2 at the association’s Delegate Assembly meeting in San Francisco. Marks has served on CSBA’s Board of Directors since 2004, CSBA’s Delegate Assembly for four years and has been an active participant in many CSBA professional development workshops and trainings.
“During my time on the CSBA Executive Committee I plan to focus on closing the achievement gap, advocating for education funding and guiding school board members in being stronger leaders locally, statewide and nationally,” said Marks.
Marks has served on the board of trustees for the Modesto City Schools since 1997, including one and a half years as president. Marks was appointed to the Modesto City Schools student wellness committee to develop a policy for the school district. She was appointed by the California Legislature to the Joint Committee to Develop a Master Plan for Education – Kindergarten through University, and is a representative on the California League of High Schools.
As a lifelong, child advocate, she has volunteered as a mentor to at-risk youth and gang members and has counseled junior and senior high school students. She has also been involved with the California Association of Large Suburban School Districts.
“Cindy has been a devoted director and delegate for CSBA,” said CSBA President Martha Fluor. “I know she will be a wonderful addition to the executive committee.”
Marks resides in Modesto with her husband Bob. Two of her sons attended and graduated from Modesto City Schools.
